Instructional Strategies
InTASC Standard #8: The teacher understands and uses a variety of instructional strategies to encourage learners to develop deep understanding of content areas and their connections, and to build skills to apply knowledge in meaningful ways.
Introduction
When it comes to instructional strategies, I emphasize varied teaching methods to meet the needs of an extremely diverse set of learners. My students' range in levels of readiness when they first enter my class, so my instructional strategies are student-centered and growth-focused. I incorporate activities that appeal to my students' many interests, from novel studies to discussions to hands-on experiments, in order to encourage them to build deep understandings of my content areas and their connections. As my students learn and grow in English Language Arts and social studies, varied instructional strategies provide them with ample opportunity to apply their knowledge in meaningful ways.

The foundation of my instructional strategies across all content areas is activities in reading and writing. Supporting my reading and writing instruction are the technologies that make it all possible. Through choosing and integrating a wide variety of websites, apps, and technology-based assessments, my students become enthusiastic for the learning that is taking place. This level of student buy-in is critical to students' development of deep levels of understanding of content areas and their connections.

Conclusion
In conclusion, I use my instructional strategies to ensure that all of my individual students can learn in a way that allows them to grow and demonstrate mastery of skills. By applying multiple instructional strategies in core areas of reading and writing, supported by effective technology integration, my students develop deep understandings of my content areas and their connections, and continually build the skills necessary to apply their knowledge in meaningful ways.
